Lost in Fantasy- Magik Basics

Magik

Basics
Magik is the basic principle in Rasmara. The energy that the caster uses in order to cast spells is derived from either 1 or 2 places: the energy from the caster themselves or from the energy of the elements. The more energy they have, the more spells they can use or more difficult spells. The amount of energy varies between users. Some may have a lot of energy, while some may not have a whole lot. The user can practice and train to increase the pool of energy they have to become stronger and be able to use more spells. The elemental energy supplies the power of the spell. Elemental spells depend on the area around the caster. If a fire spell is used in a hot, arid region, the spell would be stronger than if used in a temperate region. Other spells, such as healing and transforming spells, draw energy from the user.

Restrictions
The amount of energy varies between users. Some may have a lot of energy, while some may not have a whole lot. The user can practice and train to increase the pool of energy they have to become stronger and be able to use more spells. However, if the user continues to use spells after their energy pool is drained, it could have negative side effects. If they use minor spells after they have spent their energy, it could make them mildly ill, along with making them lethargic. The more difficult the spell, the more side effects it will have on the person if used recklessly. In some cases, using a very difficult spell when the person isn't in condition to cast it may result in the death of the caster. Some elemental spells require the elements to be nearby to absorb the energy to be used. For example, a water or ice spell is useless if used in a dessert region. Or if using a fire spell in the rain or flammable area.

Forbidden Spells (Taboo)
Not all magic is allowed for everyone. There are several spells that are considered forbidden or taboo. While most have been lost to time, a handful of these "taboo spells" still remain. Many consider these spells taboo is because some had used them in the past and had horrible repercussions. One example is when a Troll used a spell to try to bring his dead love back from the dead. It did work, but his love had no heart, no soul; a ghoul. He brought back his lover's body but not her soul, thus turning it into a mindless zombie. He tried to make her remember him, but to no avail. She bit him, causing him to start turning into a ghoul. In the end, he killed himself by incinerating both himself and his lover. Another would be spells associated with darkness. There are a selection of dark spells that are allowed, but mostly all of them are forbidden. Only Shadow spear, Dark arrow, and Dark Shield are allowed Dark spells.

Types of Spells
Elemental
Most common of all spells. Elemental spells derive the energy from the elements from nature. The elements are fire, water (ice), wind, lightning, earth (plants), light, and darkness (shadow). These spells are more effective if the element is nearby.

Modification
Modification spells draw energy from the user to change the user's form or form of another into anything. It can range from changing a limb to changing the entire body. One can change into beasts, give themselves wings, change their face, or make themselves an exact copy of an enemy.

Healing
Healing spells are some of the common spells in Rasmara. These spells can range from being as simple to healing a cut to stronger spells such as re-attaching a limb. These spells can not only help lives, but also take them away. If not used carefully, they can cost the user their life (as explained above).  These spells cannot bring back the dead. Once the person has died, it is impossible to bring their soul back and revive them.
